I have had this driveway camera up for a few years. It's totally meant to get trespassers pics. I didn't think about all the different deer I'd get pics of. I was getting about a pic or two a day. Now this small tree fell and there's a deer or two on it constantly it's like dozens of pics of different deer. They are all does fawns and young bucks. I don't know what kind of tree it is but, they love it.(I'll post back what kind it is when I go tomorrow to check on things) A few years ago I cut an elm tree in the pasture and my cattle went absolutely crazy on it for a couple days. They ate leaves and stems back to where they were about finger size. Anyone know which tree species would be good for cutting and attracting deer or at least stopping deer? Pics are after and before.

I watched an old looking habitat video a couple years ago with some biologist (iirc) up in Michigan who took down a maple tree to provide a winter food source for deer in the area. There were no leaves, but the deer were eating the buds for next years growth. He'd set up a camera and this tree got hammered for days on end.

This has been very interesting, a simple small tree falls and deer are on it almost all day and night. By the way a mature buck came and camped out on it for an hour. This is next to a cutover with ragweed and all other weeds and Forbs. These deer aren't starving.
I've heard about cutting maples and deer will utilize it very quickly. If a person cut a small tree like this and put a camera on it he could get a pretty good census of the deer in the area without having to worry about waiting 10 days to hunt after it's cleaned up.
