I posted this in the general forum, but thought I would share here, since many dont venture to the "dark side." My dad purchased this rifle in the mid 70's; its a Winchester Model 94 chambered in 30.30. It is also the Canadian Centennial Model with the 26in octagon barrel. When new, it was a thing of beauty with the engravings and gold inlay. My dad passed away in 2002 and due to limited resources and few deer in SE Ky, he never got an opportunity to shoot a deer with it. Yesterday morning I missed a doe at 80 yards with the iron sights, but this morning I was blessed with the opportunity to shoot this doe at 40 yards and was able to put a 150gr core-lokt through both lungs. A special thanks to Greg, aka stalkhunter, for dragging her 150-200 yards back up the hill for me.

Awesome!!!
Always wanted an otta on barreled 30-30.
Did Marlin make any?
Gunbroker has several Marlin 1893 30.30 w/ octagon barrel listed, but they're not cheap.

Congratulation! You got the job done and got a deer with your Dad's rifle and I know that had to be a nice feeling. That is a nice model 94 for sure. I get so used to looking at the standard carbine version that I forget how they look with the long barrel and especially the octagon version. Also there's just something special about deer hunting with a lever action. It somehow connects you to the past - at least for me.
