I don't even know how I am typing right now, I am so upset! With an hour of light left, I headed to my parents place with my bow, and no real expectations. When I was getting all my stuff ready, I realized I did not have my release. I thought I would be able to shoot with my fingers but I was wrong. I haven't seen a good buck all year long but of course was offered a 30 yd broadside shot at at a 140" deer 15 minutes into my sit. Shot went 6" high. That was one lucky deer.

LOL, I have forgot my release, twice! I am talking in the tree, sitting there and then like... WTH? LMBO...
Now I have a spare in my pack that is ALWAYS packed with the same stuff all season regards of weapon and goes with me everytime out.
 
I buckle my release around my riser , that way the only way I forget
my release is I forget my bow. Hope this helps on the next time.

Exactly Bowriter, when one becomes dependant on superfluous gear things like this are bound to happen.

I understand how he feels. It is sickening when you screw up an opportunity due to carelessness. I've done it too.

Practice with your fingers as well so this can be remedied!
 
I have not been able to sleep all night every time I closed my eyes I saw him. I can shoot fingers well just not with this setup.
My pack was not closed all the way ( drawstring backpack) and when I pulled into my driveway I ran over my spare release that had fallen out when loadin up.
When looking for my main release I found it right where I had my bow setting before I left home ( on the back of couch). I always keep it on my bow, but apparently when I grabbed the bow the Velcro on the release grabbed the couch. I am an idiot!!!!!!!!!
Just two weeks ago, I was in another hurry and set the bow on top of cab of truck when loading up and it rode a couple of miles to the store before I noticed. Got lucky that time but not last night.
i don't know what else to say, except "beep", "beep","son of a beep"!!
I can't be getting in a hurry anymore. This feeling just is not worth it.
I guess I did get lucky in one way, a clean wiff.

today's short axle to axle bows are difficult and painful to shoot with fingers.

Been doing that for years now, learned the hard way too!
 
Just let it settle down for a couple days bro... You found the cattle trail they've made they'll be back you know once they show up there this time of year there not going far. He'll be back!
 
Keep a spare in the bottom of the pack ever since I dropped mine from 15ft up and had the same expirience. Big Buck walking through had to shhot quick, just couldn't pull it back.

Even if you practice with your fingers, and your bow is sighted with a release, your still going to not be accurate in shooting !

10 or more. Not sure. All I know is he was one of the biggest deer I've ever seen alive. The mass was unreal. Saying 140" is being conservative. He very well could have been much bigger. The few on here that know the area I hunted yesterday know how big the deer in this area get. I sure wish I was posting pics instead of a sob story! I have screwed up several biguns in this area over the years.

That is what I do. I always buckle my release to my bow even during the summer out of habit.

Sorry to hear that. It goes to show that you never know when it will happen. Just hate that it had to happen then. Question, did you aim 6" low on the second one??? :) Sorry, had to ask.
 
My bow shoots about 4" high and 4" to the left (20 yds) with fingers. I try not to forget a release, but I have an idea in case it does fail on me.
