Well I am proud to say I bought my first deer rifle. I found a beautiful Marlin 336A with factory mounted scope on sale for $329 (plus a $35 rebate) and I'm thrilled . I think I got a lot of gun for the price.

I shot my old man's 336 ever since I was a little kid and always wanted one of my own - great TN brush gun. I asked Dad if he wanted to sell his and he said "You can have mine WHEN I'M DEAD!" :/ LOL. I said "Fair enough Dad!" So I bought my own.

I love it. It carrys well at 7lbs and only 38" long. I got a nice sling for it and a soft case at Bill Goodmans gun show over the weekend. I'm stoked!

Good deal. You're going to hate putting the first few scratches on that.

nah.. it needs some character right?

30-30 dies came in the mail so I should be good for making ammo.

I've been shooting store bought 170 grain Remtington Cor-lokt's for over 25 years .A Marlin 336 will shoot 3" or better groups at 100 yards any day of the week. It's a good brush gun like everyone says, but they'll do a good job in a small field too.

not that it really needs it but i put a sims limbsaver on mine because i got a great deal at gander mtn. $19 for the screw on pad, not slip on, any who what a light shooter with it. mine really likes federal 150 powershocks but thinking of trying leverevolution when they run out

Congrats on your new lever gun!
My Marlin 1961 Sporting Carbine 30-30 likes to eat Hornady 150's.
The Levers have special feel to them.

Two things:

1:Shoot Hornady Leverevolution to extend the range of that gun. With the Hornady round, sight in at 3" hgh at 100 yards and you will be dead on at 200.

2: Get a Wild West Happy Trigger from Cabelas. You can order it online. I ordered one and had a gunsmith install it. Triggr pull is now 3lbs!

I have a 336W 30 30 that I am going to use alot with my climber this year. Good luck.

Thanks.. hopefully heading out to Owl Hollow tomorrow to sight in for the first time.. this rain has been really annoying!

Owl Hollow in Franklin is closed. Is Charlie still letting people shoot out there?

Reopened under Charlie jr management. See HERE

Sighted the Marlin in there this afternoon. GREAT weather!

I plan on trying these. I just bought a 30yo 336 and am looking forward to using it. I used a Marling lever in .357 mag in the past. Knocked them off their feet every time - never had to track a deer, but I passed on a lot of longer shots > 50 yards.

Some may think I'm nuts, but my 336 .30-30 with Hornady Leverevolution will group 1" at 100 yards. Usually, that means two bullet holes touching and one "flyer".

If you're handy, you can do things like replace the hammer spring, polish the trigger sear, and smooth up the action by filing some of the moving parts. Super easy and fun gun to tune. I love mine.
