I honestly don't see how jugging and trot lines are legal. They cost other fisherman alot of trouble and money in lost line and lures. The trot lining on Pickwick has gotten ridiculous - and the biggest problems is old lines not being removed. I've hung too many trot lines to count with only a hook shaft and the rest rusted off. I love running down the lake and dodging jugs with no one in sight that set them. TWRA regulates umbrella rigs down to 3 baits but someone fishing for catfish can "occupy" the entire lake in one day.....guess it's the difference in something worth catching and something that's not.

By law, all jugs must be labeled with the owners names and removed
once fishing is done. Jugging is a lot of fun, and a great way to cover a lot of ground. If you have ever jug fished, you wouldnt be saying its a "lazy" way to fish.

old Trot lines , etc.. are simply evidence of irresponsible fisherman not removing their lines. I wish we could regulate responsibility, but we simply cant.

I ran my battery down yesterday trolling around Marrowbone lake (a TWRA lake). Part of that came from retrieving jugs in between attempts to catch some carp and bass, and I caught a few catfish on the jugs. You don't get the fight like with a rod and reel, but it's still a lot of fun. As LB Fanatic said, you have to have your name/address or your TWRA number. I have my TWRA number on all my jugs and I picked them all up before leaving. I saw at least 2 or 3 other unmarked jugs, an empty rusted-out trotline, and what looked to be a limb line on the same lake. Trot lines and limb lines aren't even legal on TWRA pay lakes if I'm not mistaken. I found the trot line because one of my jug lines had snagged it. :D

So I don't think it's the lines that are the problem, it's the people breaking the rules and abandoning their lines that are the problem. Seems maybe the rules in that area aren't enforced enough?

I see jug fishing as a good way to catch catfish for the table... I don't see a point in strictly catch-and-release jug fishing, but that's just me. I released a few of the smaller cats but have 2 in the fridge now that I have to fillet.

KSBuck, Head on down to Huntsville, Al in about another month or so and I can prove to you that jug fisherman/fishing is not being "lazy". I have caught more than 30 Cats in one two hour period before and if running all over the place and hauling them in is lazy then I am good at it.

I pick up all noodles (15-20) that I throw out, I realize people hate dodging noodles (myself included), therefore I always put my noodles along the bank and I stay within 300 yards of them at all times.

Some people give jug fisherman a bad name just like some hunters give hunters a bad name, but there are alot of us that love it and do the right things to keep the rivers/lakes clean, so please dont throw everyone in the same grouping.

And FYI-- Fishing = "Catching Fish" or atleast trying; in saying that Jugging makes me look like one heck of a "fisherman". If thats me being Lazy I will do it every chance I get.

The act of jug fishing or trotlining isn't lazy. But the fishermen you describe are... and irresponsible, illegal and downright rotten.

Great assessment, agree.

I have jug fished since I was 6 and love it. I am 69 and catfish are certainly worth catching. I eat mine on a regular basis. Unlike bass fishermen who run up and down the lake at 70mph and throw back what they catch. Seems they are not worth catching but I eat those also instead of injuring them and throwing them back to die a slow death.

A lot of Trot lines are Cut by other fisherman due to getting hung by them thus they cant retrieve them.Im not taking up for them, just know how it works from commercial fisherman in the family. The jugs are maybe lost by a big fish,a single one,or by lazy people that check them at a later time. This is about like gettin mad about a wad of line and crappie jigs gettin hung into.Ever watched the show Lobster Wars,Just gotta deal with everyone else Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm tickled that a bass fisherman is pissed because of people fishing for another species. Ya might want to stop and tell some of the commercial fisherman down there to clean up their stuff so you can run 80 mph up and down the lake. Good luck with that.

Bwaaaaaahahahaha!!! Enuff tears.

But, I got to say, if you really want to throw five quarter ounce swimbaits at once for a fish u intend on throwing back, u ain't lazy!, just weird

My only complaint with jug/noodle fishermen is the amount of abandoned jugs/noodles that they leave in the lake. I spent all of last week on Dale Hollow, and just about every pocket had a noodle washed up in the back of it. I rather like dodging main channel noodles/jugs @ 65 mph, makes it more fun!

Just an FYI,there are not that many bass boats that will do 70 or certsainly 80mph on a lake at any one time, those are TOP END boats, mine will run about 45 at best.

you haven't been on ft. loudon/tellico on a spring saturday. there are a LOT of 70+ mph boats on these lakes.

I would say the average bassboat with a decently matched motor will hit 65
My old 21 ft javelin with a 88 200 will hit 63-65 with two people!! So 70 is easily obtainable

If its got a 225+ horse motor on the back of it, you can pretty much get 70+ mph out of it. My boat has a 200 on it, and will hit 65, but i usually run about 55.

yes, many bass boats with 225s on them can go 70,but there are several, like mine, with much less on the back. Not really worth arguing about, just saying not every bass boat goes 70,much less 80.

Anyway,good fishing to all.

i had one of those 90mph boats at one time. i now have a little 16 ft alum with 25hp that pushes it about 28mph which is plenty fast enough for me.

When I see my gas hand drop from running that 200gt, I wish I had a 90 and a boat it would push. If I had more than 1-2 chances a month to get the boat out I would downsize in a heartbeat.

I resent you put all juggers in the same boat. I love juggling with my kids and it is a lot of work. We keep all our jugs and do not leave them.

I have never understood why someone would want to run up and down the lake at over 45 miles and hour just to get to a fishing spot. Then to throw them back.

There again I don't down your way of fishing. I would appreciate you not go after mine.

By the way you have enough bird nested line in the lakes to keep other fisherman in a tissy for years to come!

I have a 34 lb motorguide on the back of my 14' no name jon boat, will go about 3-5, fishing is pretty peaceful for me.

Nothing wrong with going 45 across a lake, as long as you are considerate of other fishermen and don't blow by them and swamp them with a wake... I personally like a quieter approach to fishing.

If I had a dollar for every bass lure I caught this winter I wouldn't have to go in my pocket for at least a year for fishing... Everyone on 30 foot of line. It's not just catfish guys that mess up the water with line.

There are a few true 70+mph bass boats, very very few true 80+ mph bass boats, and 1 in thousands that will run 90+ mph, and those have been worked on considerably to obtain that speed! Im not talking about what your speedometer says either, GPS will tell the tale and has busted many a bubble for those who thought they had a fast boat!

Amen!, I swear we got buzzed by stinking bass boats all day yesterday. Still not sure why those guys are in that kind of hurry.

They are traveling fast same reason your traveling slow, because they want to and they can! To each his own and like stated above, show some respect and everyone will be just fine!
