Lol. I have never caught a 3 pound crappie. I doubt i have ever caught a 2. But just trying to fathom what a 3 pounder would like now that i have a reliable scale
This one was 1oz shy of 3lbs. 10" fish beside it.
I'd guess most 3lbers will be 19" and above

2 lb 2 oz 15" length 12.5" girth white in my right hand. 1 lb 8 oz black in my left. Didn't measure him

That is why it cracks me up when people show me a 15-16 inch crappie and say it weighed 3 or 4 lbs LOL I have caught several in the 16-17.5inch range that only weighed a little over 2lb.
I've got 3 that were 2.1-2.25 at 16.5 inches and a 17.5 inch one that was 2.8 on the old spring scales from the 90s
i cant fathom a 18.5" black nose crappie. they are so thick. we caught some 16" in the fall and they may have pushed 2, but we didnt trust the amazon china fish scale. finally bought a good one so we plan to weigh all the big ones this spring
A friend from Illinois came down and stayed at our place on Sardis Lake.
I took him out the first morning, showed him a stickup to pitch his jig to, and the first fish of the day was on and weighed 3.1 oz. It was 19 7/8 inches long.
He took it back to Effingham, IL, had it mounted and put in his reception area of his glass business and said when people came in they didn't believe it was a crappie and/or they thought it was fake.

Length without girth won't add up to much weight. I caught a really long white crappie back in the summer (fish in attached picture) that was 19 inches long but skinny as a rail and didn't even hit 2 lbs. I can't remember the exact weight but seems like it was 1.5 or something like that. But we were catching 14-16 in inchers that were right at 2 lbs.
It's not all about length. Girth and thickness makes a huge difference and whether a white or black nose. From my experience, a black nose will weigh a lot more per inch than a white. I have caught several black nose in the 14 to 14.5" range that weighed 2 lbs.
I caught the one below back in the Fall and is the 2nd biggest I've caught at 2 lbs 8 oz. It was around 15.5" but super wide and thick.

white crappie are skinnier anyway it seems. but man what a mouth on that thing

Not mine. This one was allegedly caught on Enid Lake in MS in 2017.
My son caught this one a few years ago
Think it weighed around 3 lb 6 oz and think around 19". It was very thick

Biggest Crappie I ever caught was right at 3lbs and measured exactly 17". I put it in a livestock tank debating on having it mounted. Ended up throwing it back thinking I could have a state record in another year (my own pond). Never saw that fish again. Lol
Im learning alot by weighing them and can tell you most people over estimate the weight. A 2 lb crappie must be a fairly rare fish
I didn't catch this but just saw it this morning.
Back before Arkabutla was drained we'd catch some giants up in most any of the creeks feeding the lake....They had to be 12" to keep but 12" fish were mostly getting culled for 16"+ fish. I doubt it will ever be the same in my lifetime.
