Saw a few deer this morning, beautiful morning to hunt. A little doe dogging from the young bucks.
After lunch I went to a spot I didn't plan to hunt, just wanted to scout and see if there was good sign. On the way in, I found a fresh dropped "autoloading muzzleloader bullet"
It looked ok there, figured it was a good spot, but didn't like the wind.
Got that sleepy feeling and figured 1:20 pm was a good time to take a little nap.
Picked a tree and sat down, dozed off a little, but could still hear a squirrel here and there in the leaves.
After 20 minutes or so, I heard a more rhythmic sound in the leaves, so I sat up and started looking.
Here comes a doe fawn, followed by another doe, getting close!
Got my gun slowly raised, cocked the hammer, looked through the scope, and dropped the doe like a bag of rocks at 20 yards. Once the other deer was out of there, I went up and had to finish off the deer - bullet had gone through shoulder blades, but apparently not enough lung do do the job.
It was a smaller doe that made for an easy drag out with a stick through the nose.
Got the deer checked in and donated to HFTH.
Now I am in the woods in a more familiar spot hoping for a doe for my own freezer. After this weekend, I'm buck hunting only...
