Now if I can only get the barrel off. It says to remove the pivot pin, but which pin is it the small one or the large one. I messed with it for a few minuets and them had to come to work.

Take the forearm off, then the pin (the one that it pivots on when you break open the barrel from the action) will slide out with a gentle tap from a blunt object.

It's the big one. The apex was tougher to pull the pin on then I had figured it would be. Definately tougher then an encore.

I rapped on it pretty hard today and it did not budge. I get off work at 11:00 I will get it out tonight.

I used a sockect that was just a lil smaller and put some duct tape on the end of it and pushed it through. Puttin it back in was a byotch. I couldn't imagine having multiple barrels and switching them out like an encore.

Interesting fullstream I was able to get the pin out but it was a little tough. I may have to try the socket when I put it back in. I was seriously thinking about a 35 Whelen barrel for this gun.

Pins like that should be pressed in or out, not driven. A c-clamp could be modified to perform that task so as to make a switch barrel rifle more feasable. WGK, post the pin diameter and length along with a pic of the assembly, and I will look at making one for you.

I'm interested in seeing this. Getting the pin in and out is a nightmare. I would love to buy another barrel, but didn't see a benefit since you had to beat the old pin out.

Whoever is interested Whitaker Guns has apex barrels with the fore arm.. $199!!!!
I think they have 35 Whelen and 5-6 other calibers as well...

Im interested if I can figure out an easy way to remove pin without affecting the scope from beating the pin!

Same here brother! Until there's an easier way to get it out that 45-70 barrel ain't never comin off!! If CR500 can figure this out I'd sure like to get a 7mm08.

I did a little research and found the pin diameter is 10mm. Oversize pins are offered by other companies to tighten the joint up if it is loose. I still need a length on this pin. I don't own one of the guns so if someone could measure the pin length or for that matter, the reciever width at the pivot point and post it.

I fabricate my own specialty tools whenever possible. This is a simple tool

Per cheap caliper 31.92mm

Sorry I just now saw this. I too would be interested in purchasing one of these tools.

Roost 1 thanks much for the lead on the Apex barrels,, I ordered one today 224.00 shipped with a fore arm. That's a great deal. And guy a Whitaker guns said to spread the word they had several in different calibers.

I got ahead of schedule and completed a prototype pivot pin removal/installation press this evening. Since WGK and I are in reasonably close proximity and he has a new barrel coming, he and I are making arrangements to try it out hopefully in the next week when his barrel comes in. We will update then.

Have y'all got a chance to try it out yet?

Glad you asked, I have been dying to ask the past couple days, but hated to sound impatient :D

You are the man. Please let me know what I owe you. I really do appreciate this. (I am assuming I am in the 3 :D )
