Looking at the forecast and seeing a good amount of rain. I have never hunted in the rain but I wouldn't mind if it wasn't a down poor. Anyways is it even worth going out inthe rain, do the deer move any?

I killed a 8 point in the rain last year in early October. My biggest bow buck by far. If it is not a absolute down poor im going to be out there. I really like those umbrellas that screw in the tree above you when you are in your treestand.

I LOVE hunting in the rain. I hunted in the rain a week or so ago and had deer all over me until the rain stopped at 5:15pm and didn't see another deer. Have to keep a close eye on everything because you will not hear a thing.

Okay another quick question, does it affect where I should set up in the morning, I have a valley with a little water source, or a all wooded section.. can't decide what to hunt in the morning...

As long as the wind and lightning are not present, rain is a good thing. From my experience, deer actually have seemed more relaxed in the rain. My opinion is that the moisture helps their sense of smell to a great degree. Besides, think if it this way. If it's wet, would you want to lay down in a soaking wet bed. Lol. Seriously though, I have see higher numbers of deer on a rainy day than any other. Not a down pour, just a slow steady rainy day.

I like hunting a little thicker cover in the rain. Seems like I see more activity.

I don't mine hunting in the rain. Actually love it. I stay dry as can be under my umbrella. Only thing I hate is the tracking. I'm a good tracker but wet conditions make it tough on anybody.

I'll hunt in the rain, during rifle/ML season, but not bow season. It's difficult enough sometimes to track a wounded animal in dry conditions, and I just can't make myself add onto those odds of not finding a deer I've shot, and have the blood trail washed away. JMO

Don't worry about your water source, deer won't be using it in the rain. If it is a slow steady rain I would get on some acorns. If it is windy and kind of nasty I would try and find somewhere out of the wind (thicket, deep valley/ravine, back side of a hill out of wind). I have noticed if it is really windy the deer seem skittish, I believe because they can't hear anything. Get out of the wind a bit and they are just like normal... only wet.

i'm in this category. I don't believe we would have found jeff's deer in the rain. it was a tough enough track with dry conditions.

I don't mind to hunt in the rain, matter of fact Ive saw and killed some of my biggest bucks in the rain. I actually enjoy hunting a steady rain especially in November!

IMO, I hunt the most open places I have to hunt in the rain. Wind also. Deer like to be where they can see when they cannot hear and smell as well.

Like a rain, hate a down pour. I think the rain does keep your scent from rising and depending on thermals. I also prefer open areas during the rain especially along the edge of some thick hedge rows.

I'll take over cast light rain anytime. Took a nice 6 last Sunday in a light drizzle. It seems you can "get away" with a lot more when every thing is wet. Slip on the Frog Togs and go get "UM.

Shot a nice 8 last year after a rain. Got pretty wet for a couple hours up in a tree.
But right after it stopped he come out and strolled right by.

Good luck.

It depends on when you are hunting and if it is lightning. Blood trails can disappear, so that can make it tough.

One forecast (weather.com) is calling for 30% or better today, tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday. but Accuweather is saying it will not rain any other day than tomorrow and Thursday.

I do not trust the weather forecast until the day before I hunt and I do not trust the wind forecast until i get up that morning to leave. They change forecast daily.

Notice it had stopped raining on most of the posts.its not ethical for me.do what you want but i opt.out when rain is called for

I cant blood trail a deer in the rain can you? .now every place folks hunt is different & will help you decide how to hunt it,some places you couldn't lose 1 if you tried but big tracks of land with a lot of trails you can lose 1 in a hurry.I have lost a deer due to rain when bow hunting & wont lose another 1 because of it if I can help it.
