I'm looking at a few properties in Maury County. Specifically, along I65 between Bear Creek Pike and Hwy 50. Anyone familiar with the area care to chime in on what to expect in this part of middle Tennesse. Deer density and buck quality?

Decent deer hunting there. You will be surrounded by public land there too. Lots of cedar thickets which I love to deer hunt in. I've heard of a few monster bucks coming from the WMA so you may have a potential wall hanger in the area some time. Duck river bottoms have good soil.

In the area you will be around a lot of public land. Maury county generally has good hunting and lots of deer. All depends on the pressure where your hunting. But that's every where. If they are quality farms you will be just fine.

I got permission last year for 50 acres of bow only private land that is bordered by public land W of I65 near Sowell Mill Pike. From my experience last year, there appear to be good numbers. I killed a cull 6 point and had a nice shooter come in a little too late, couldn't ethically take the shot with the low light conditions. I'll be back in that area this year for sure, for what it is worth...

Thanks guys for the info. I want a place with some deer numbers to keep the kids interested but I want a chance at a nice buck as well.

Any chance you could get permission to put some cameras out prior to purchase/lease??

Maybe, but I would be afraid to lose a good one. I plan on making an offer ASAP. The owner is out of state and has been hard to get up with over the holiday week. I have been driving around in the evenings and seeing some huge gobblers and a few does.

Here's my long story. It's almost as good as Poser's lease fiasco!

I made an offer on another property (north) last week closer to where you hunt. An hour after making the offer, the owner of this one (the south one) finally called me back after a week's wait. My offer on the north piece was "rejected" but they wanted to verbally make a counter offer, which I declined.

I called the south owner back (which is the property I want) and scheduled a viewing. My realtor sent me a text back an hour later saying that my original offer on the north property had now been accepted and the signed contract would be faxed over shortly. Now I call the south owner back and cancel that viewing. Two hours later my realtor calls me and says the north property owner cancelled the deal and accepted another offer. The south owner is out of pocket for the holiday now but I have permission to look the place over and we'll talk Monday.
