On an area i hunt, ive been given permission to do anything i want to the land as far as clearing areas or cutting down trees to spur new growth... However the land is right next to a sub division... deer will bed and do pass thru this area but im hoping to do whatever i can to promote a little more time spent in the area by deer... it is about 25 acres total... but is bordered by another 80 or so that i can not hunt.... This is not my primary hunting spot but it is literally right next to where i live so easy access for hunting is nice....

Now my question, there is a large section of this that is pretty much just grown up thorn bushes that would be a perfect thicket, except its so thick there is no way the deer are getting through it... I am wanting to get rid of this and plant pines all along the borders of this field area and something in the field, whether it be more pines and make 1 big thicket or some type of food source... I know this is not going to be instant results but in several years this will hopefully pay off with the pines etc...

However my problem is how do i get rid of all of the thorn bushes? Burning is not an option for me, is there any type of chemicals that i can put on these to kill them or is it simply going to be cutting them all out by hand?

Any help is much appreciated!

D6 Dozer oughta do the trick. Get rid of the bushes and the mess in one sweep. Course I wouldnt put that kind of work nor money into a place unless I owned it.

Well my inlaws own the land so its not going anywhere, that's why I wanted to invest some time into it to hopefully benefit later down the road...

well ya its hard to explain, but its not really the kind of thick you want... its all low to the ground and thorn bushes exclusively really and the majority of this area can be seen from the road... so low that if a deer is standing up in it, thei are in plain sight but it is still very very hard to walk through...

Get one of those walk behind bushhog's.. You can rent them.

If you can see it from the road, I'd leave part of it up and cut funnels out in the area.
