How often do you get "big" deer on camera?

great deer but will not sniff 140!
Used to be pretty common when we had more deer in my county, like several a year. It's gotten now to where, I can only get a really good one on camera once every several years. Really gone downhill.
Just out of curiosity, why do you think that? Doesn't look the part at a glance or do you rough figure it?
This is only basic guesstimate numbers based on ear tip to tip distance being 17", eyeball being 3.14" circumference, nose tip to edge of eyeball 7", and numbers from deer I've scored with similar traits. I'm not opposed to being wrong so if I'm way off base with any of these numbers please explain how & why.
The left G3 curves inward so at certain angles it looks shorter than the G2 but when you see the curve it is at least same length as G2.

I'd say its a good 130's deer
Hopefully he gets it down and we'll see. I'd bet if it doesn't bust 140 it's climbing all over it.

Our 5 year olds is our roughest age imo. They are extremely nocturnal on our place. Go one year up or one year down we usually kill them. But I agree if we keep a deer from 4.5 to older he is on our place and seems to live in very small areas. One deer we killed this year I swear for the last 3 years has lived on 20 to 25 acres. He was for sure 6.5 believe he was 7.5. Only seen by a person twice. And got shot twice. He was by far the most ghost of a deer we have ever had I was convinced he would die of old age.
We have killed several in food plots. But they are tucked so close to cover and bedding wind and everything has to be perfect for us to even attempt hunting them. What amazes me is in the same county we have 3 big farms one is 20 miles away and 2 are practically neighbors a couples miles away from each other, the differences in movement and rut on those 3 pieces. And then you throw in the farm we live on that's not that big and how deer act and move. It blows my mind every year. The fact that yal have never killed or seen in an opening or food plot is crazy to me.

He is in the 140s. I'd say mid 140s.
Slightly different numbers but same score I guesstimated. It doesn't take but a minute to run some numbers and I much prefer that to just going on a feeling.

Yep. If you take the time to add it up piece by piece you should be able to add it up reasonably close, but looking at it like some do and saying "it looks like that 8 point my uncle killed that went 125 so it must score that" doesn't work… obviously
No it sure doesn't. Worse yet when they see guys on TV rattling off numbers, calling a 100" 2yr old a 130 incher.
Dad sent my brother and I to taxidermy school when I was a teenager. Wasn't my thing but my brother turned out to be rather good at it and does it to this day. When I'm in town for a visit we always make a point to get together and hunt, play pool, whatever. Many times through the years I've been there when he scored bucks for folks, and it's amazing how many will get upset and some even argue because they just know the buck is bigger. He and I can score the same buck and generally are inside half an inch of same score, so it's a fairly exact science that you cant really screw up. Folks who don't actually put tape to horn just don't know. I've scored many, many, many bucks and still won't guess without running some rough numbers first.

This mainframe 10 with a scoreable kicker on his left g2 is about the best we get around here. I have several other pics and video of him on a flash drive but not on my phone. Figure he has an inside spread of right at 18 inches.
He was my target buck for this season. I am pretty sure he is, or was, at least 4.5 years old. Unfortunately he had not been seen on any of my cameras since October 28th. He went from being a daylight buck on my cams to gone. Think it likely someone else killed him.

That's an impressive buck! Love that Roman nose. Hopefully he's still around and just staying somewhere else. I find it pretty common for bucks to shift cores several times per year. It's one reason I hunt from archery opener until season ends or I've tagged out, because I can't trust that the buck I'm after will even be in the same zip code come gun season.

I knew with the daytime pics I was getting that he had to be bedding close by if not somewhere on my farm. I should have gone after him during archery but hoped he would hang around until our cwd gun opener. I have a stand not far from where he was in the velvet pic.
I figure he was at least in the upper 130's. We get a deer of that caliber on our farm once maybe every 10 years or so.
I wouldn't count him out just yet. Hopefully he shows back up early fall again!

These numbers are in line with what I am thinking except for mass. I think he is 138-140. Guess there's only 2 ways to find out. Kill him, or find his sheds.
