Just got to thinking about the old one I have and the pieces and parts used to build it.

The first MK-85's Standard and Backcountry carbine was built from the best of the best back in it's day. I have been told. Douglas barrel, Bishop stock, Timney trigger, Williams sights

I can't offhand recall the starting serial number but know it's didn't start on a # 1 but more like #500 on the standard MK-85 and higher starting numbers on models such as the carbine.

They were good guns until they came out with that drop block and that is the ugliest poc i have ever seen!

Two of my mk-85's are what I would consider vintage and I do agree that they are a step above the newer mk's, although the newer mk-85's are nice rifles also.
My oldest one has a Lothar Walther barrel. Tony Knight told me it was made before they moved to Centerville Iowa. That gun has a 1 in 32 twist.
My other old one is an early Stainless model. The barrel came from Bill Wiseman in Texas. It is a 1 in 28 twist and shoots heavy conicals great.
Here is a picture of the Stainless one

I have recently came across an unfired mk-85 with the 20 inch carbine barrel. It is called a Light Knight. That gun has a serial # in the 17,XXX's._

Guess all the inline guys ought to at least respect them. Didn't they start the modern inline movement?

I've shot an LK-93 with a thumb-hole stock for years and it is one of my favorite rifles to hunt with. Very solid and well-balanced firearm. Shoots the heavy hollow point Powerbelts like a dream.

Last couple of years I've actually preferred to carry it even during regular gun season.

I never owned one, but dad beat his over a fence post and a steel gate because of multiple problems. Brother sent his back to the factory 3 times because of accuracy problems. They replaced the gun twice. He told them to keep the gun the 3rd time he sent it back. That was years ago, I believe it was the first one they offered in SS with lam. stock. They both shoot CVA now. I shoot a Remington Genesis.

My brother has an old MK-85 that he bought brand new that doesn't have any bluing left on it and a very pitted barrel. He shot it the other day after it had been loaded for 2 yrs, fired first try and hit the target where he was aiming. I have owned 8 of them myself and have never had a single problem out of any of them accuracy wise or miss fires.
