I don't usually worry too much about stuff like this, but what is everyone's take on the HD outbreak in the state's deer herd? I have heard about it on the news a couple of times in recent days.
 
We don't know what it's gonna do just yet.But if it hits like in did in 2007 the deer heard will be in trouble for several years.I hope that's not the case.
 
Bigger impact out East, but I have heard that about 10 were found in south Marshall County. No buzzards circling on my place yet.

In Lawrence county, a friend of mine saw a fawn with signs of EHD. It died the next day.

I've been out in Lawrence and Wayne counties but haven't come across anything.

Roane county got hit hard. I've also known of one deer in Hamilton and one in Polk.

lets hope it's not hat bad.EHD happens every summer sometimes worse than other times.I really hate the thought of it being wide spread.Hopefully its just being reported more and it's no big deal.
 
I really don't know whether it's better to have a wet season or a dry season. Wet seasons would allow for more moisture in the plants and foliage deer eat meaning they wouldn't have to visit waterholes to drink as often. It might also mean there'd be more water holes available to allow for less concentrations at a single water hole. With a dry season many of these water holes would go dry. Fewer water holes would mean less places for the deer to congregate with those that remained getting pounded; a potentially deadly situation. So... what is the best alternative?
 
Crap I hope not cause the herd in our region can't afford this IMO. Man it's gonna be rough if it has hit.

Just off hwy 64 On glen springs Rd .Not too far from shoal creek. I really think this was isolated. At least I hope so.

Is chuck swan and Catoosa being hit? I was drawn for both this year. I see Claiborne county is getting hammered so I was curious. Ive never noticed any issues in the part of east tn I live in but I hope its not spreading my way. Our low deer numbers probably prevent it from spreading this way as easy, but we cant really afford to lose too many deer as we are usually pretty low density already.
