I've been fighting an ear infection and haven't been able to get out for a while. Is anyone catching sauger? If the bite is on, I might be able to live with the consequences for a few days.
Has anyone been catching sauger on Old Hickory yet?

On Facebook, I'm a member of a old hickory lake group. I have saw a few pics of sauger catches lately.
I'm in some groups too. Everything I have been seeing is below the dam. I don't really want to park my truck down there.
Right after Christmas talked with a couple of dudes putting their boat in and they said they caught 11 one day and 13 another, didn't say anything about size.
I'm seeing several reports of people catching them on the Cumberland river.

I was out last Friday on the Cumberland, up in the Hartsville area, tough day fishing but ended with 4 keepers. Fish were 16-18 but nice a girthy (for a sauger lol).
is it crappie time yet?

No clue about Old Hickory but they are biting well on the TN River on the west side.
Caught one below Watts Barr on the 30th of December. It was my first ever Sauger.

it's ALWAYS crappie time to me...
Do the sauger bite similar jigs as crappie? 1/8 oz or 1/16 oz hair jig or is it much more different? I've been considering a trip to Pickwick.

3/4-1 ounce jigs tipped with minnows is what most people use on the east end

West side is normally 1 1/4 or 1 Oz jig. I refuse to fish without minnows but a lot of people around here just use plastic. Most days it seems to work just as well but every now and then the minnows will catch 3x the amount of fish plastic will. If you decide to make a trip let me know and I'll give you the most updated report I possibly can. I don't get to fish as much as I like anymore but I know plenty of people who do.
Managed to finally get after them today below Old Hickory dam. Caught a couple sauger, 1 keeper. Also caught two bluegill, a crappie and a white bass. Not a bad day.

have you tried the Berkley "Gulp" minnows? i've caught all manner of fish using them lip hooked like a live minnow, as well as tipping jigs with them.
