I sent my stuff off to a couple known 'smiths. Why take the chance with an unknown local when prices will be similar to someone well known with a reputaiton? If time is an issue, I could see going with someone unknown.
 
Maybe I'm a little biased. I ended up using Lock, Stock and Barrel in Franklin to have a bedding job performed and was not happy at all with the outcome. The accraglas was all over the stock and metal as well as marks being left on the stock and barrel from what looks to have been a vise. I am pretty sure I could have done a better job and would have started by using Devcon or MarineTex. I paid the same price locally as sending off and probably waiting the same amount of time. I don't do local from that experience.

That Rocky fella at Franklin gun shop has been mentioned on that Outdoor Channel program "Sighting In with Shooting USA"

That's just a link with the words "Rocky our gunsmith" a few sentences into it. On the aired program they said our smith at FGS.
One thing that bothered me about the original show was that the Scoutten boy goes in depth about barrel break-in procedure...but he never uses a bore-guide :(
