Nice jack! I bet he wore you out! I caught one that size off the beach down there and it was a load to handle!

Those reds look great too!

I avoided the jacks hoping for a mackerel and lost the only red I hooked.

Great job. My dad and I fished that same pier on 6/10 after a t-storm and almost got skunked. He landed to stinking, slimy catfish. Sharks were about all that were biting that morning. Congrats!

I hooked a spinner shark. As soon as I saw it jump, I grabbed my reel and broke him off. The folks next to me just couldn't understand why I would do that. I explained that it wasn't getting my line and I was not gonna fight a shark and possibly miss a king bite. At least they got to see it jump and spin. :)

Im gonna be down there this friday and woukd like to try that. Do yall take your rods or get some when you get down there? What kind of equipment would I need ? Lines, hooks??!!

great folks and advice. j&m tackle shop is the place to go. tell them what you want to do and they will tell you what you need. your freshwater gear will work for most all but probably the kings , jacks and bigger reds.

Thanks stik, I have some heavy duty cat gear, 10' rods and abu 7000s along with a couple alphamar 16s .

for the kings and jacks, you will need something that will hold 300 yds of 15 lb line. I have been down to the spool on fish several times and seen many get spooled.

I think my reels will hold 300 of 15 lb test. This is my first time doing this so I dont expect to do anything right except maybe get the line wet. What about hooks ? 8/ - 10/ circle hooks work?

most use #4 treble hooks on a 18-24 inch steel leader.
