Low power scope ( which one)

or

Peep site( which one)

no long shots with this just a woods gun.

I know it's personal preference but just want opinions....

I have an older Burris Fullfield 1.5-5 on my old Savage 99, and a Pentax Lightseeker 1.75-6 on my Encore ML. Both scopes are great for up close work, but have enough magnification to still be effective if you do need to reach out. They also have no bell objective, so you can mount them in the lowest rings, which keeps a good cheek weld to the stock.

i have a mueller on my 450 marlin a 2x7 and its been on there for about 5 years? maybe and i haven't had to reset it
it clear and a good scope for the money with plenty of eye relief

I would go with a low power scope. Some guys will say the peep is faster but I don see how it could be any faster than a 1.5 power scope. You throw it up and its in there. Plus you can magnify if you need to. I have a Bushnell banner 1.5-4.5x32 on my little .30-30 and like it so far. We'll see how it holds up this season under use.

I'd go with the low power scope. In addition to everything mentioned above, the scope will be better in low light when you won't be able to see thru the peep.

I have a sightron SII in 1.5-6x42 and a sightron SIII 1.5-6x50 but unfortunately, both of those have been discontinued. I also have a Minox 1.5-8x32 which is a great scope if you don't mind spending the money. I got mine on sale for $370.

I have a sightron SII in 1.5-6x42 and a sightron SIII 1.5-6x50 but unfortunately, both of those have been discontinued. I also have a Minox 1.5-8x32 which is a great scope if you don't mind spending the money. I got mine on sale for $370.

I love my glass and Minox and Zeiss is what I shoot. Don't think I want to go that high $$ on this particular gun so I'm looking at all options. Thx for input....

Nikon Buckmaster 1x20 for around $180
Sightron SI 1x20 on sale at swfa for $70 which is about half price

Probably pick up a used luepold vari-xII 2-7x32 for around $150 on ebay.

I would go with a low power scope if the idea of having to not take a shot at a big deer in low light is something you can't live with. PErsonally, as much as I like the idea of woods hunting with a peep sight, when I have tried it, I immediately notice how dark it was. I had to give up some of the best times of the hunt because it was just too dark to see through the peep. Now I did have a fairly small aperture in my Lyman sight but it wasn't a "Target" aperture either.

I replaced it with a Leupold VX2 2x7 32mm objective scope. They are small and fast at 2x but give plenty of power at 7x for a long shot.

Thanks Jim, I went with the Sightron you suggested.
Good reviews on brand and at 1/2 price had to give it a shot....
