Growing Onions

Anyone ever grow onions from seeds or does everyone start with sets?

I used to grow them from sets and was a bit surprised at how much trouble I had with seed crops failing.

If you use seeds can you share the details please.

for scallions in spring i use seeds. for big bulb onions i use sets. to get big onions from seed youd have to start real early in cold frames or indoors and transplant,nor maybe under row covers. nothing special good loose rich soil and plenty of K. got to keep them weed free.
