And he got it done!!
My Grandson Justin is a late bloomer when it comes to deer hunting. He always wanted to go deer hunting but there was always a conflict when it came time to take his hunter Ed course. He finally got his hunter Ed certificate this year and was chomping at the bit to go on his first ever deer hunt.
He spent the night at our house Friday night so we could get an early start Saturday morning. After a sleepless night for the both of us opening day was here. We got to the blind a good 30 min before daylight and got settled in. I knew the spot I had picked out was not a good morning spot but I was hoping we would at least get a glimpse of a deer. Unfortunately that didn't happen but I told him to hang in there and hopefully the evening hunt would be better.
We got to the same blind around 3:00 and after a couple of hours watching squirrels I was starting to feel like this just wasn't going to happen.
Around 5:30 he whispered "Granddad I see a deer" Sure enough a deer was walking the edge of the food plot about 50 yards away going in and out of cover. I told him when it gets in the clear to take the shot. He steadied his rifle and as the lone doe stepped in the clear he let er rip. I could tell it was a good shot and the deer crashed almost in front of us.
If you've never taken someone on their first successful deer hunt you are truly missing out. I was beside myself as was my Grandson. He was smiling from ear to ear.
Congrats Justin for a great deer and a great shot. I am truly proud of you, not only for your first deer but for the person you are.
I love ya little buddy!!
