Today we had a blast with Valerie trying out the 243 for the first time. She recently passed her Hunter Safety course, and had shot a 22 and some downloaded 260 Rem a few times, but today was her first with some downloaded (80 gr Hornady PSP with 29 gr H4895)rounds. As you can see in the attached pic, she laid them right in there! Her father and I are telling her she has to work on those fliers.
She obviously had no trouble with this, so I had her shoot a few of the factory 100 gr loads, and she noticed no significant recoil increases and hit just as well. We went from paper to novelty targets: she hit a Pepsi bottle full of water, then we shook up a Pepsi can and she exploded the top right off. She even put a bullet through a golf ball we had stuck in the wet clay bank we were using as a back drop. Finally she took three shots at a full size whitetail photo target. Her first shot clipped the top of the heart, the other two missed heart but were solid lung shots.
She'll keep practicing before the Juvie hunt, but things are looking good!
