Will say I didn't have any ambitions to tackle the grand slam much less a single season one.

Season started out in Ft. Pierce, Florida on March 5th hunting a orange orchard. Not much of a story as we roosted the bird day before.

Next stop was Mississippi on March 19th afternoon hunt he was heading to his roosting spot

April 4 hunting Rios in Santa Anna, Tx. We started out hunting the north ranch as we called it with lots of birds but they wouldn't leave their hens, so we moved to the Casey ranch. Upon arrival we heard a bird about 200 yds away and quickly moved on him. Couple of good yelps and came within 15 yds.

While hunting in TN last Saturday morning a friend that lives in Nebraska texted about her husband killing a bird. We got to talking and she invited me out to hunt with them. So that's when I did the post about going after the slam.

Arrived yesterday afternoon in Chadron, NE checked in motel then got my hunting license I headed over to checkout a spot Huntaholic told me about. Upon arriving another truck pulls in and 2 take off walking, great. So I walked down this monster steep hill checking out the area mainly for the morning hunting.

April 24, getting to the parking spot at 5, still very dark get out of the truck and a bird sounds off very close. I believe he is going to fly down the hill into opens areas. So I'm trying to figure out his location. Most of you all know I'm deaf in ear and can't tell directions of sound. So I'm off to where I think he is roosted. After crossing 2 unbelievable deep steep canyons I realized I was wrong. At 5:15 the gobbling started everywhere until fly down around 5:40 then zero sounds.

So I went on a walk-a-bout only stopping to listen and call, nothing. At 9:50 figured it's time to start walking back to truck for water and snacks. Got to the monster hill when I heard a faint gobble. After a few mins another confirming gobble now trying to locate the sound direction. Another gobble and I head west to canyon #1 pull out pot call and answers everyone of the Crystal Mistress yelps. Now my heart is racing as I believe this might happen. Another 15 mins goes by and now it sounds like he is leaving, call no response. 10 more minutes nothing. So I just sit there not calling just listening.
I was just about to throw in the towel when he gobbled very close. Gun is up point to the west looking for a red head to peak over the ridge. To my surprise I catch movement to my left and there he is 20 yds away looking for that hen. Waited on him to go behind a tree to raise my gun. One shot with Long beard #5 he is done

Congratulations again! LOL those pics look strangely familiar! Those canyons btw are what we called "pipes". I know the one you are talking about to the west very well lol. Birds would drop down in them and be gone! Most of them are flat and grassy in the bottoms, so keep that in mind if you decide to stay and fill some more tags.

Congrats!
It's seems like every time I turn to social media or you tube everybody is hunting that part of Nebraska. I went about 4-5 years ago and it was ok, evidently it has gotten a lot better. Beautiful country too.

Congrats again, now go get you a Gould's [emoji14]

Spoon, are those mostly pine trees scattered around the "grasslands"?
If so, are they native?

I would assume they are native as they all look the same and some are very large

Congratulations, Spoon!

You did have an awesome year!

And you can still keep hunting some more in TN.

Would like to kill one more bird in Tn as I've never killed more than one. Have zero desire to kill the limit

Yup, native Ponderosa pines.
