Grabbling / noodling / whatever you may call it

I really want to get into this in a couple weeks if I find the time to drive to Old Hickory and a buddy or two to help. But where do I start? Shallow water with rocky bottom and look for big holes between rocks? Where do I start looking and how can I be more cautious about snakes and snapping turtles?

I have to say I've done it at least once, it looks like a blast.
