A neighbor and I are doing our food plots as we speak, his is about 3 acres, mine is about 2. He's a big time trophy hunter and he's planting soybeans, already has the seeds and probably got them planted yesterday before the bottom fell out. He bought his seeds from specialty place while at a trophy deer symposium, so I can't get in any from him.

Any recommendations for what I should plant right now? I'm in a very rural area of Lincoln county so I could get just about anything. I'll probably hit up CT Garvin's (Elkmont store) later today since it's raining here. I have one of those walk around seed sprayers from the local Coop.

LMK what you think.

Thanks,

I think it depends on how you plan to hunt the plot or area. Are you archery hunting or gun hunting it? Depending on when you will primarily be hunting can help with picking what to plant. If you will be just gun hunting over it, you may want to hold off planting in the middle of the summer and wait till late August early September to get some wheat, oats, or winter peas planted. If you are wanting to have something in the field for later summer and maybe early archery seasons, going with iron clay peas will draw the deer but will not hold them past October and you would need to over seed or replant during a tough time of year to get a good plot established.
