All kidding aside the if the gun is 1897 or older it will require the use of 8mm "J" or "JR" ammo (.318)bore, not the more modern 8mm "JS" (.323) bore ammo that is commonly sold today. The Germans changed the bore specs on the 8mm rifle in 1897 and this is the reason for the two different dimension cartridges.
