I need a spotlight for frog gigging purposes. Doesn't really have to be a headlight, I'm fine with hand held. Any recommendations based on burn time, brightness and so forth?

Also, I'm not ready just yet to shell out $175 for one of the belt lights. Maybe eventually, but when I only get to frog gig once or twice a month I'm just looking for something to get me by at this point.

Thanks for that. That info quite possibly saved me some real money.

Last time I went I used a simple LED headband light to see for walking and then used a Brinkman Maxfire flashlight (Knockoff SureFire...uses those CR123 batterties) for the actual stalk. Going through three sets of batteries in the night was just too much.

I have the halogen maglite rather than LED, holds 2 D cells, but they have a good wide selection for whatever type light you want.

My light works fine for frog gigging. In fact it is all I use.

Thanks for the info, guys. Bought this a few days ago:

Three hour burn time, spotlight and flashlight settings and blinds frogs, snakes, dogs, cats, me, my fishing buddies, friend's fiance, friend's dad and one curious owl. It's my official frog gigging/full time truck emergency light.

Trapper -- Those are pretty good lights. My wife bought one a couple years ago. Pretty bright light when full starting out but when it goes, it goes.

I myself have a father inlaw and brother inlaw who live/eat/breathe coon hunting. They found me a 23 volt coon light for a steal of a deal and that's what I use for the frogs and for blood trailing. That dude will flat light the world up lol. Frogs are like "holy crap" when that beam hits them. I use to frog gig with some buddies who had the 6 volt lights. At the time I didn't have my 23 volt...was using a handheld light and their lights would put mine to shame. That first night I brought the 23 volt with me, they just turned their lights off...you couldn't even tell they had theirs on.
