over here
I used to make a Friendship Cake from my Granny's recipe and I would like to make some more but I do not have any starter. Do any of you know how to make some starter? I have the recipe for what to add and for the cake.

here you go:

* 1 (15 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained
* 1 (15 ounce) can apricot halves, drained
* 1 (15 ounce) can sliced peaches, drained
* 1 (10 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained
* 1 1/4 cups brandy
* 1 1/4 cups white sugar

DIRECTIONS

1. In a large glass jar, combine drained pineapple chunks, drained apricot slices, drained sliced peaches, drained maraschino cherries, brandy and sugar. Stir gently with wooden spoon. Cover and let stand at room temperature for 3 weeks, stirring at least twice a week. Drain and reserve the liquid - This liquid is your starter for the Thirty Day Friendship Cake.

Here is the verison my mother passed on to me.

30 DAY FRIENDSHIP CAKE

Day 1: Pour 1 pint of starter into a glass gallon jar. Add 1 large can of peaches and juice. Chop the peaches into pieces. Add 2 1/2 cups sugar and stir every day for 10 days. Cover the jar with a saucer and leave setting out. Do not cover with a lid and do not refrigerate.
Day 10: Add 1 large can of chunk pineapple and juice with 2 1/2 cups sugar. Stir every day for 10 days. Your color has changed and your fruit will foam when it is stirred.

Day 20: Add 2 small jars of cherries sliced in half. Add 2 1/2 cups sugar and stir a final 10 more days. The cherries will give your juice a pink color.

Day 30: You are ready to bake your cakes. You will need ingredients for 3 cakes; one for you and 2 for your friends. You need 3 boxes of yellow cake mix, 3 boxes of vanilla instant pudding, 1 dozen eggs, Wesson oil, 1 box (3 cups) raisins, 3 packages black walnuts and 3 cups of pecans. Raisins, walnuts and pecans are optional but they are very good in the cake, any or all of them.

Step 1: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a tube pan. If you have 3 pans you can bake all three at one time. Bake 55-65 minutes.

Step 2: Drain fruit into large bowl. Pour juice into 3 pint jars. These are your new starters, one to keep and two to give away to friends. Cake must be started within 3 days with new starter.

Step 3: Pour 1 box of cake mix, 1 box of vanilla instant pudding, 4 eggs, 2/3 cup Wesson oil, 1 1/2 cups fruit into large bowl. Mix well. If needed add 1/2 cup water. Add 1 cup raisins, 1 package black walnuts, 1 cup pecans lightly floured to cake mixture. Pour into pan and bake as directed.

Glaze: 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, confectioners' sugar (1 pound) milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix well and pour on cake while warm.

check out the amish bread recipe below, might be
what you are looking for.

I havent heard of the cake.

But, if it is as good as the bread I will have
to try it.

I usually don't use nuts or raisins. You can freeze the extra fruit if you don't want to share. Granny used to freeze the cake but the fruit takes up less freezer space. I also had a cousin who drank the leftover starter, said it tasted a little like a hurricane.
