He was the bow hunting guru when I was a kid. Seemed like his stories and photos were in every hunting magazine I picked up.

I'm always looking for old Bear stuff for my collection if anyone has anything that isn't pulling at their heart strings…..

An archery pro stated that his recurve was 90 lb. He saw Fred at an archery show. Fred's tight fitting shirt showed muscles that were like cables. I tried a 90 lb. compound with about 65% let-off. Couldn't even budge it!

Just a note, Fred did shoot heaver bows at one time. but in his own words said he settled on 65lbs
and stayed with this until the end. He also said the only way he could shoot further was to pull a bow
back past his normal anchor area (he was a snap shooter). Fred and those like him back in the day did
not think twice abought shooting 50,60,70 yards or more.

I love watching old footage and reading books abought Fred Bear, Ben Pearson, Howard Hill and those like them.
Makes me want to go out and fling some arrows, so I can go find them when the snow melts, ha-ha

As you may know, those pictures are of the Bear manufacturing facility on the southside of Gainesville, Florida, just off of I-75. It is where the Fred Bear Museum was for decades until Bass Pro bought it and moved it to Springfield Missouri. I used to stop there quite often on my way to Lake County. I bought a compound bow at the museum back in the late 90's. It was a Buckmaster PWC with recurve limbs.
