Freaking WIND

I hate wind, absolutely despise it.
Calling for 14 mph on Saturday out of the NW.
That means on the water it will be closer to 25 I'm sure.
No, wind is NOT my friend.

I still want to go bad but I know all I will do is get mad.
The places I fish there is not normally any real good areas to get out of it.
Ya'll that don't have spotlock or power poles, how do you combat it, or do you just not go???

I would rather fish in the rain than any wind over 5mph.

To an extent I love the wind for fishing. And the amount of wind depends on the type fish I am chasing.

For crappie or bluegill, I prefer zero wind or a light wind.

Bass, striper and hybrids, unless it gets so strong that it is unsafe to be in a boat, the wind helps more than it hurts.

Ruger, I carried a 50 lb anchor for most all my life fishing, it can make fishing in the wind bearable, except for dropping and pulling it up. I always dropped it as easy as I could, never just throw it in the water. Pulling a 50 lb anchor up and down all day gets old, but it worked for me for 30 plus years. I just hope my ghost trolling motor doesn't have issues, because I will get the anchor back out.

With gusts up to 39 the man said. Been wondering when it was gonna hit. I have had several days this winter that wasn't bad . For the last few years it seemed like a whole lot of winter days were bad wind or rain.

I drag a wind sock behind the boat but the biggest factor for me is the boat bouncing. With my baits moving 2-3 feet up and down, it makes it too difficult to detect bites.

It was bad yesterday afternoon. I would just go past the areas I want to target and let the wind blow me past the area then do it again. I caught 6 bass but was only able to get 2 in the boat. Most of the time they just slapped at the baits I used.

Experienced this yesterday trying to throw ned rigs. Ended up changing to 1/2 ounce and 3/4 ounce lipless cranks and chatterbaits.

Yikes! mine was 18lbs plus a bit of chain. Used it to anchor in 150+ feet with a 5-7kt current with no issues.

My little skiff was 8lbs and no chain and it never failed.

Next time you are shopping for an anchor, look at Sea Claw.

Ruger at one time, when I was catching a pile of stripers on the Cumberland in a jon boat. One guy flagged me over to his boat and asked me what the secret lure was I used. His buddy yelled something and we both looked at him, and his buddy said he (meaning myself) has way more money in rods, reels and lures than his boat and motor are worth. The first guy said I just realized something (they were in a new expensive bass boat), the boat and motor do not catch fish. I told him there are many fishermen who do not understand that.

Never had an issue, not at all, even in current in the river. I always kept a fresh razor close to the anchor rope though.

Without an anchor, a huge amount of fish I have caught would not have been caught.

haha shew if I was the one that couldn't speak English well enough for you, Id be like alright here is the newbie that's been here for 3.5 hours. Speaks perfect English though.

One has to be very careful about stating that you hate wind, or rain, or snow, etc. All these things are created by the Hand of God. These things make us appreciate the calm days, green grass, or a warming spring. Hate is a strong word and we all should try to avoid it. I personally have used it many times but I have grown to see the error of my ways and I am trying to correct past wrongs. I judge no one, but at the same time, I do not want to see anyone condemned. Remember, we will have to answer for "every idle word".....a day that I am not looking forward to as I have said many things that I now regret.

Logic,..... you're coming here with logic,....., I thought this was Tndeer. I need more coffee. I always drug a wind sock on the Tennessee River bumping the bottom and caught more catfish than I wanted to clean. Up in the creeks you can get where the wind doesn't blow. That's where the crappie are hiding!!
