I am wanting to plant a food plot on the farm I hunt, but the land owner is considering leasing that portion out for cattle. (They get moved from one side of the road to other at various times of the year.)
Is there anything that can be planted for deer that the cattle WON'T eat?
Not economical to fence off a portion of the field.

Nope. Cattle eat everything deer will, and far more of it. Deer browse the new growth. Cattle eat the entire plant.

I hunted a farm several years ago that was all cattle, no woodland. They drilled ryegrass in the fall for the cattle and the deer came out in numbers for it. They did have other options rather than eating the ryegrass but they would come to it same time each evening. Def one of the best deer hunting properties I ever had access to.

I tell clients that they can either grow cattle or deer, but trying to do both will be a problem.

Plant clover and let both the deer and cattle eat it.
I sort of agree, its better than nothing, especially when you consider that food plots arent a magic bullet.

I would not expect much out of a food plot with cattle on it too,but they might get a little out of it.

Deer are great on this property with 75% of it being wooded ravines and thick cedars.
Well, saves me time and money to not do anything!
