Got my foodplot fixed this weekend before the rain we so desperately needed. After checking things out yesterday though, I feel like I am going to have problems. There were deer tracks EVERYWHERE in that plot and even one yearling standing in it when I pulled up. I have never had the amount of traffic in a plot so early and this is a good thing. However, my biggest fear is that with that much activity before the first sprout is even above ground that I will never get a good stand of growth that would last until the gun season I prepared this particular plot for. What do you guys use to get your plots a jump start and keep the deer from keeping things nipped to the ground? This plot is about 2 acres and I dont have access to a battery powered electic fence box or anything like that.

If you dont get a good stand, you could always go in with a second sowing of winter wheat about the 10th of October. It would be up late season.

The truth is the deer generally avoid my plot until after the first heavy frost or two. There is plenty of mast and understory to browse on. I changed to a different type of seed last year and was very disappointed because they went absolutely untouched. I almost gave up that stand. Until......
