I wish I had a dollar for the number of times Tessitore has mentioned UF's opt outs? How can I get the Bama or ND radio call on Friday? This guy is painful.

Hmmmm.... UF was down several key players, no doubt, but that was a pretty pathetic showing. Dan was spinning it quite well after the game, but he was out coached. It could have been much closer. UF tackling was nonexistent, and several dropped/tipped passes made Trask look worse than he played. I do feel sorry for him having to go out that way, seems like a hard working class act.

I agree that "opt-outs" are killing the sport, but I don't claim to know the solution. It's a mess, and i guess that we can keep hoping that it will fix itself, but that is not going to happen. NCAA needs a leadership change with some vision

There is no solution if they aren't playing in the final four. Means nothing to them. At all. This is the new era of football.

That's why I say these bowl games are a bunch of malarkey. Many of the good players choose not to attend them because they allready have their eyes on the NFL draft and it makes ZERO sense for them to squander their chance of getting drafted getting hurt in a game that means NOTHING. So you have a bunch of pine riders filling in playing. So mommy gets to see Johnny play for the first time ever because Hank is not out there on the main squad. Oh Goody.

All true, but I'm trying to figure out how 4 WR/TE opt outs resulted in UF allowing 435 yards rushing and almost 700 total yards.

It wasn't malarkey for Oklahoma last night or Wisconsin (or even Wake Forest) yesterday afternoon. Are you saying it's malarkey for SEC teams? I guess Georgia fans better get prepared for the game tomorrow. Put your money on the Bearcats tomorrow boys, because that game's malarkey for Georgia.

No difference in any other game UF played. Only difference is UF offense put up tons of points against Bama. Helps keep other offenses off the field. So yeah no difference than any other game.

I understand what yall are getting at, but I think yer making a Mountain out of a Mole-Hill. Only about 2 percent of college players ever even have a shot at playing in the NFL, and very few players have opted out since the Playoff started. The vast majority of players (probably 99.5%) are excited about playing a bowl, because it is likely to be the highlight of their football career.

I read an article last week about how Urban Meyer's opinion on bowl games had changed over the years. He was once a staunch supporter of the old bowl system. Now he thinks they need to expand the playoffs.

"I have had some really deep conversations with some of my colleagues, and the game is changing," Meyer said. "And I think the playoff — I can't believe I'm saying it — because I'm a traditionalist. I love the bowl games, I love the bowl experience. But you have two different sets of groups — the elite group, the high profile players, and the maybe not so high profile. I'm not saying bad players, but when I was at Notre Dame, we went 7-6 one time, we went to the Independence Bowl, the team didn't want to go. And so what these coaches are dealing with, I kind of dealt with, but not like now. There's two things important to elite players — NFL, College Football Playoff. If that doesn't happen, they're not going to play in bowl games. I'm not saying all of them, but I know coaches are dealing with that on a day-to-day basis."

I am not an Urban Meyer fan I just thought it was interesting that he had changed his mind on bowl games.

I disagree. There ARE solutions, but it takes leadership to change with the times. A few suggestions, and I'm sure that there are flies on many, and I'm sure that there are more:

-Expand the playoffs, and fix how teams get in. Cincinnati had more claim to being included than ND, and if legitimacy is given to selection then legitimacy should come to the games
-Reduce the number of bowls so that the ones who get an invitation actually feel honored
-Allow bowl sponsors to give more SWAG to players, and allow the players to treat their stuff like their stuff (ie, sell jerseys and other memorabilia if they want to)
-With NIL changes, allow the bowls to enhance the elite players marketability

These are all things that can be done without putting additional cost burdens on the schools, who are making millions off of the regular season AND bowl games, so it would behoove them to try to find a solution before it is too late

Agree to an extent, but sometimes the best defense is a good offense. When the offense can't keep drives going, or can't finish them, then the offense gets worn down.

Yes, "third and Grantham" is a thing (I'm a UGA fan, so I know this all too well), and the defense played poorly last night (didn't even try to wrap up and tackle half of the time, which comes back to coaching), but that was a whole-team loss that belongs to the head coach as much as the DC or OC.

I understand being without many key players. Look back at the Cocktail Party this season and you will see that UGA was without MANY key starters and backups. I really figured before the game that a well rested UF would win, so I didn't even watch; I went hunting instead. I really expected it to be closer than it was, but see the comments above about the offense. UF was the better team that day, and outplayed and out coached UGA. But after the game the head coach didn't spin excuses, he just said "we got beat." Dan may want to try that sometime rather than throwing his team under the bus with excuses

I don't think opt outs are "killing" college football. As BamaProud said, only a very small percentage of players opt out of bowl games. If you had fallen out of your tree stand, were none the worse for wear only banged up a little so you couldn't hunt the following Saturday, and by the end of the season you had killed a lot of deer and two near state record bucks, and someone told you that you can stop hunting for free and get paid $35 million with $20 million guaranteed if you live or aren't seriously injured come next April, what would you do?

I do think the CFP is killing college football. But expand to 8 teams? I don't know, but I think that's the only way to save it. Some seasons there might be 5-6 worthy teams, but other seasons there's really only been 3. Give P5 conference champs an auto bid? No. Oregon was not one of the 8 best teams this year. The Committee should go away. Use the old BCS formula, which btw has exactly matched the top 4 of all of the 7 CFP final rankings (makes you wonder what the Committee is looking at). It would have had TAM, Cincy, Indiana, and Oklahoma 5-8. Play the first round games on campus with lower seed visiting or this year have the Cotton, Orange, Fiesta, and Peach host. I like the on-campus games. I think that keeps the regular season meaning something. Alabama being ranked number one should host Oklahoma, not have to travel to a neutral site.

8 games would be much better but I would like to see more than that. Even with 8 games any other bowl games besides that mean nothing and I wouldn't blame players sitting out.

An 8 team playoff would be a good start with the Power 5 Champs and 3 wildcards. However, I still think that most years, at least 1 of the 6th, 7th and 8th best teams would likely come from a P5 conference runner-up(maybe all 3) leaving the "little guys" out. So you would either have to only include the P5 Champs and leave some really good teams out or expand to more than 8.

Florida had a good run they beat 1 team over 500. This year so that's nice.

Anytime they played a good team they only gave up 40+ points ( 50+ to bama/Oklahoma) and walked away with a L that's not to bad.

They really helped coach O out big time, LSU was in deep trouble setting at 3-5 before florida let them get that win so I'm sure he appreciates that.

Good year for them guys.

I also think the NFL teams should think twice about drafting players that opt out on their team. That screams selfishness. I don't think they should tumble down the Draft board, but it you have 2 similar guys and 1 opted out, I'd go with the one who stuck around to help his team.

They will be a player who didn't play a snap this year get drafted top 5

ja'marr chase is considered the best WR In the draft didn't play a snap.

Penei Sewell is considered the best Tackle in the draft didn't play a snap.

Both will be drafted top 10

Then you got guys like tray lance at Noth Dakota who played 1 game will probably be a first rounder or high round 2 guy.
