I have a couple Roma Tomato plants. I had a few of the tomatoes starting to get ripe. I checked on them today and found one missing (it had a spot on it so I knew it was gone) and one was chewed on from the top, around the stem. Would it be something in the squirrel/ chipmunk/ rat family or something larger? I think I am going to put a game camera on it for a couple days. And get the old PCP rifle pumped up. This critter is messing with my salsa.
 
Nothing on the game camera from last night. I did see a chipmunk on the fence. I'm set up with the pellet gun. Watching and waiting. Might have to get the Tactacam on the the gun. Last time I took a squirrel off that fence was hilarious 😂
 
Well the chipmunk got a bad rap. Although he needed gone, they dig holes under my house and get into the crawl space. Tear up the insulation and cause all kinds of other havoc.

I caught the offending rat (see pic) last on my trail camera. I will be putting out the live trap tonight until I catch him. He ate at least one more tomato last night. I'm considering picking the tomatoes that are turning ripe and letting them finish in the house, where they are safe. This is my first go at gardening and I only have a few plants.

For the future, what is everyone's go to method of keeping the critters out of the harvest? I do have the "garden" fenced. But it won't hold back critters like rats, squirrels and chipmunks.

I have a live trap, I've caught several in it over the years. Then it's a .22cal pellet to the head.
