A couple of years ago I shot a young buck with my flintlock 50 caliber pistol. I did not get a pass thru but killed it humanely. I brought it again yesterday and this beautiful young buck walked by 12-15 yards. I broke shoulder on the first shot. That ball got lung. He was on his side with head up. I shot two more times into his back around shoulders. Neither ball penetrated much at all. Recovered all the balls. my recommendation is don't do it. A conical bullet may be better. My barrel is 10 inches. 40 grains of 3F just doesn't produce the energy. Any way I see how many survivors of duels with black powder pistols lived to fight again
