Anyone local make them or can y'all recommend someone . I'd like to do some custom colors. Interested in either a b-55 or fast flight.

I am going to learn how to make them. I ordered one from a well know trad string maker and imo it wasn't very good.

I ordered a 60.5 . It shows up pre stretched to 58 inches. I questioned it and he said it might stretch to 60 after shooting. I explained I couldn't put it on the bow because it jacked my brace height up an inch over the max recommend height and that was completely untwisted. I didn't get a response. Secondly I had ordered a orange and sliver with white accent , it shows up orange and white. the white was so dirty looking it was more of a beige and the orange had completely bleed into the white. Which I understand is common but I had asked him about it before ordering so I could make another color choice if need be and he said it wouldn't be a issue. I could have sent it back but I decided to keep it. Luckily it fits another bow I own. I made a jig today. ordering up some string material soon. I hope to learn how to make my own with the help of youtube.

not questioning his workmanship.
just wondering if you stated you wanted a 60.5 " string and he though you had a 60.5" bow and he made the string for a 60" bow? 60" longbow takes a 57" string. how long is your bow?

Update: made a simple jig from YouTube ( diamond back archery ). Ordered some B-55 and a bcy serving tool from Lancaster archery and made my first Flemish twist string. So far I have made two. The second turned out much better than the first. I'd recommend to anyone shooting traditional to build your own strings . The process was much simpler than I expected.

I advise to write some quick notes on the back of your jig board. (and I should follow my own advise. ). with me it will be several months before I make another one and I always seem to forgot a small detail that I learn the previous string halfway through making the new one.
one thing I need to do is measure the actual cut string BEFORE I start twisting and forming the loop.
my peg board is set for the bow measurement tip to tip. some are made for the actual finished string length. another note to add to the board.

Good idea Eddie . Thanks , I have made 3 strings. I am learning from my mistakes. Today I made a 12 stand with .20 serving and it was about right on nock fit but it seemed to stretch more than the 16 stand and ended up too long even though I made it a inch shorter than the 16 stand. I read some where that if you had to twist. A string more than 15 turns to achieve the correct brace height it was too long. Lot to learn still but I am happy with my progress. When funds allow I am going to order some other types of serving in various diameters and colors.

I've seen, (and done myself), strings that were twisted so tight they knotted up on themselves when loose.
don't be scared to take one apart and re-twist the loop an inch shorter or longer. if you serve a large enough area you wont have to re-serve.

about 3" above where my nock set would be to about 3" below where the string would hit my arm brace. I serve my string while it is strung on the bow and eyeball it.

I ordered a string once that the maker made both loops the same size, served the string long enough that it didn't matter which was top or bottom. the reason he did this was if the serving was getting frayed under the nock, the shooter could flip the string, reset the nock set and keep shooting without reserving.

I have more issues with the stands getting worn out in the Flemish loops than the serving getting worn. the loops get the rub more. this is where the endless loop strings shine, the loops are served and protected better.

Truth be known, I've just haven't taken the time to learn how to make an endless loop. I've had a few and had no issues with them. Just like to try things myself and have just done Flemish.
