I've been getting alittle down because I've normally killed a local buck or two by now. I was just looking forward to an upcoming quota hunt in a more target rich environment but decided to get up this morning and walk up the mountain to a favorite spot anyway. I'm sure glad I did. This one came around at about 0740 and gave me enough of a look through the timber to decide I was shooting. First shot hit the point of the shoulder and dropped him. I got back on him and could see he was trying to get up so I shot again. To my disbelief, he took off running like lightening and went out of sight, I was sick. I went to the spot and found lots of blood. The thing ended up going over 200 yards. I had hit point of shoulder- exit in neck, and right in the guts on the 2nd shot . I hate that but if one is trying to get up, I'm shooting what I can. 7mm REM Mag handloads, 140 gr NBT over 57 gr of H4350. Probably my 2nd best buck ever.
