Your not outsmarting the bucks intelligence or problem solving you are outsmarting his God given instincts to survive.

If you know of somewhere I can "unpressured" mature bucks, please let me know, that is for sure a LOL. The deer I hunt get more pressure than you can imagine.

As far as hunting somewhere 1 time during the rut, what happens when you and the buck are using different places all the time.
Especially during the rut, I will hunt the same stand several times in a row, because that takes one variable out and with as much area as some bucks, especially mature bucks, cover, many times you will be where the buck was yesterday or where he is going to be tomorrow.

You either didn't read or didn't understand what I said.

I said you can't hunt mature pressured bucks over and over and over at the same spot. He will catch onto you. I never used the word "unpressured" or said to "unpressured" them.

You can if you're not hunting a particular deer during the rut. If your just waiting on a buck then yeah you can. You never know what's going to come by or when.

All the bucks I've killed that were mature came from either east TN heavily pressured land or out of state public land. So I'm not hunting unpressured deer either.

hunting private land and all our good bucks came from two locations about 200 yrds apart each year.The 12 pointer i shot this year i had probally eight encounters with him but never the shot i wanted until i saw him dec 18 i think it was.All muzzelloader and gun i hunted the same spot almost every evening cause i knew there where good bucks in the area.Most years i dont hunt just one place but this year was different,we saw 3yr old deer out feeding in the fields almost all day long.We even have foodplots that only got hunted 2 times total,bow,muzzleloader,and gun season.This was a weird year forsure.

I'm guessing the difference was lack of acorns?

Nothing is 100% so yes I agree you can do that. But hunting is a game of odds and percentages sometimes and if you hunt a buck several times and put excess pressure on him before the rut especially, you are killing your odds.

True,and I think that's the reason more bucks were killed.The deer where I hunt were feeding all day long sometimes,we mainly have fields to hunt[emoji12]

Don't agree,we hunt every day usually where the big bucks are from bow till the end of gun.As long as your not leaving a lot of scent behind I've never have a problem

Your leaving alot of scent everytime you go in. There's no way around that no matter what you buy or wear.

Its no miracle,just what has worked for us.Hunter specialities scent away products(body soap,clothes soap,deodorant,cover spray) and rubber boots work for us.You have to watch what you do also,if you sweat,get gas going hunting,eat i try to at least wash off in those areas with the body soap.Where we hunt its nothing to see 10-30 deer a day and when some walk under you and they dont smell you it must be working.Have you ever saw the acorn cover scent spray they use to sell,havent saw it locally in awhile.It smelled real strong ,it had a real strong vanilla smell.A friend i hunted with swore by it and bought me some for christmas ,i kept it in the truck but wouldnt never use it because i figured i would get busted forsure if i nused it,lol.Well another boy that hunts with use also got some from him and finally started using it when the acorns were falling and said it worked good and i started using the bottle i had.When the acorns were falling good it worked as good as anything ,but if you ever smelled it you would think otherwise,it was strong

Simply put if you find someone that kills mature deer consistently every year you'll find someone that understands wind and thermals and has gone through the process of realizing the stuff you buy in a store is completely useless hunting mature pressured bucks.

lets not get off topic on whether scent away works or not or whether thermals play a role etc....strictly experiences/ opinions on first time sits. It's just something ive consistently noticed and when i say consistently im talking about 90+% of the time consistent....

This is intersting topic. On my what I call good lease my buddy and I have what we call killing trees. We have about 2 a piece. We don't hunt these stands at all til last week October. My buddy tagged out on his #1 spot. A 120 8 point and a 129 8 point. Killed on same stand. I killed dec 6 th on my best tree a 134 9 point about the 15 th time I hunt that spot this year. As I reflect back to years gone back it seems most mature bucks on that lease have came from a handful of trees. I leave my stands all year and don't go to them until I walk in and hunt them so I guess u coujd say that is first time in and I do kill on 1st sit occasionally. But if I didn't hunt those spots anymore I would have missed some good deer. I believe hunt a good stand until it ain't good no more. Lol.

ive saw a few people, one of my good friends being one of them, have a spot or "killing tree" so to speak that produce good deer year after year...I on the other hand havent' been fortunate enough to find a spot like that yet...lol ....this post is very interesting because I cant say I see deer on my first sit all the time and see them on the 5th sit .....or vice versa....I cant really see a pattern and I will set somewhere a lot if I have confindence in a buck being in the area and sooner or later showing up....especially as long as I am seeing does on a regular basis....

Had an encounter second sit with one 9f my target deer he snuck behind me and by time I saw him he was cruising away at 60,70,80 yds then gone it happened that fast best 7pt I've seen
