Walking to my stand trying to get one more doe with the bow. Spotted tines in the thicket, and thought no, it's a really good looking stick. Nope it was a fresh shed, and after picking it up, I saw more tines about 20 yards away. The next one was last year's shed. Never found any sheds in here before, other than a single spike 6 years ago.

^^^^how do you know for sure? If they are the same deer, he's going backwards. Could be brothers or kin in some other way.
this was my thoughts. Likely brothers. I'd be willing to bet their DNA is similar

I think a surprising number of bucks show no growth or slight decrease after a tough year due to weather, food supply, etc

I've seen it on a couple of deer that I killed based on sheds and trail cams.

That said, at my place we're coming off a couple years of good acorns and lots of rain, for the most part, so with a moderate winter this year maybe there will be some bruisers next year ;)

No doubt, I see examples of this just about every year where I hunt.

It's not the same deer, just very similar. The one I shot has a similar left side, just with an extra point. The new shed is smaller than the old shed

I know a deer can drop his antlers anywhere but was there something in that particular area that would have influenced dropping; jumping a fence or ditch, heavy in vines, etc.?

nothing particular in that spot, actually not even the thickest part of the thicket
