So heading this weekend on my first coyote hunting trip and have pretty high hopes almost always see during deer season just have a few questions not planning on using any calls or anything but what's the best times and what's the best thing to do with them after the kill? If I got a unique one I'd mount it but can you give it away for fur or anything

Also planning on using 308 150gr

Why you not gonna use any calls?
You can buy a rabbit distress call pretty cheap and they work.

I have had my best luck the first and last couple of hours of the day.

Just grab a rabbit distress hand call from your local sporting goods store or wal mart may be carrying them. You tube it. All you have to do is sound like a dieing rabbit. Who really knows how that sounds. Lol. Trial and error is how I got my start.

yes, watch a few youtube coyote hunting videos. Search for eastern coyote hunts. Listen to the pattern, sound and length of calling sequence. Can also go to the foxpro website and preview the call sounds to get the basic sound down.

Walmart usually sells the Haydells cotton tail or government predator call. The metal reed calls like those are easier than open reed. Primos Cat Nip is also a super easy call to use, but have to order online. It is kinda a hybrid open reed but easy to get the hang of. One of my favorites!

I prefer to call 30 second or 1 min sequences, starting soft for first sequence. Wait about 3 min between calling sequences.

Use google maps to find thick areas of interest possibly holding predators. Make sure to chose an elevated stand location with good visibility. Wind preferably will be in your face or cross wind. Sun to your back, if possible. Set up in shade to hide you better. Walk in very quiet, and don't go too deep into target area so to not disturb things. Once on stand, keep movement of head and body to minimum, with no quick jerky movements. After you finish calling, wait at least another 5 to 10 min to see if anything comes later to investigate. Look all around good one last time before getting up or leaving. Most seem to show up within 3 to 7 min, but sometimes they just wait until everything settles down and is quiet.

Good luck! Post how it goes.
