Being fall break I decided to give up on hunting west TN and head back home. Several of my classes were "canceled" so I was able to make the three hour drive back home in time to get in the woods. As soon as I got home my camo was on and I was out the door. I relocated my climber and was sitting by 3 pm. By 5:30 a very large deer body caught my eye in the distance. In a matter of seconds he was 40 yards from my stand, and there was no doubt it was the "Big 9" from countless trail cam photos. One of the largest bucks that we caught on the camera. After waiting for what seemed like hours I realized he wasnt coming any closer so I took the shot. Being the first year I have ever shot a bow as fast as my mathews helim I never saw the arrow impact. However I heard him crash and knew the hunt was over. He only managed to make it 10 yards before expiring. This was my first buck with a bow, I have been bow hunting for 6 years and this was my first shot at a mature buck.
