Just thought it would be cool to here everyones opinion. Mine for medium big game would be 7mm-08, but the 30-06 wins out if I could only have one rifle for every situation.

field gun is a 270, flat and long. everything else i use a 308, just a little heavier yet very reliable and accurate.

My favorite is the 300 WSM. Very easy to reload and a very efficient cartridge with not much recoil. Small rifles that you normally see 7mm-08 and 308 in can also be found in 300 WSM. It can take any animal in NA. A 165 grain Interbond loaded to 3200 fps is tough to beat.

7mm with a 140 grain nosler ballistic tip. Do anything i need!!

I still love my little ole 30-30 with a 170 grain nosler partition for the thick stuff though.

I've got lots of favorites just as there are lots of different big game. It also serves as a reason to try new and different things in case Mama asks why I have more than one.

30-06.........

It's big enough to kill anything in NA but not so big it rattles your bones. Has good knock down power. You can find ammo EVERYWHERE. Some places may be a little more expensive but even small shops, Wal-Mart etc. have '06 ammo and none are outrageously expensive. The '06 ammo has a huge selection and variety. You can buy (used to be cheaper but now harder to find) military surplus FMJ for target shooting.

;) :D

.300 win mag is my choice if you don't want to track one. You can also change bullet weights and hunt just about any game north america has to offer. But the rifle i use the most for deer hunting is my trusty .308 i just can't leave it at home when i go to the woods.

My 270 WSM has dropped everything I have shot with it in its tracks, so I have to like that! I also have a soft spot for .308s, its not flashy on paper, but easy on the shoulder, cheap to shoot, fits in the lightest/shortest guns and kills with boring regularity without tearing up meat...whats not to like. I also want to get a .358 and .260 to play with down the road.

[font:Comic Sans MS]I always find threads like this interesting. Me personally, I sample the wind, spin around three times grab the first piece of steel in the safe. Usually the 308 Winchester is up front. [/font]

As for why, to answer the gentleman's question: Simply, only because it was the best looking rifle in the pawn shop the day I was passing through.

I like my CVA Optima Elite in the .270. I did alot of research on the caliber and it is very impressive and a classic like the 06 and 30 30.

.30-06 for availability of ammo. If wanting something svelte, I'll go .260.

7mm Wby mag for performance. 270 for cost. 7mm-08 for comfort.

Overall I guess 270.
