My father gave me one of these rifles a while back. I have no experience with a gun like this. From what I can tell, you check to make sure the numbers match on the receiver and the bolt... this gun does match. It's in great condition. The bore looks good. I haven't cleaned it yet since I just got it back to TN. He bought it at an auction when no one else bid on it for he said no more than $50. He couldn't remember exactly but he is cheap and doesn't collect guns so I know it wasn't much. This gun is stamped 1951. It seems to be 100% intact except maybe a bayonet. Anyone know anything about these rifles? I'm guessing it's a nato 308 round it fires?

Looks like a bolt action m14. It is a beautiful rifle. I don't know anything about these, maybe someone else can chime in, but there have been several different 7.62 calibers in use by various armed services in differen countries over the years, so don't just assume that it is a 7.62 NATO. That thing looks awesome and is begging to be shot.

It is a Spanish FR-8 carbine. It is a large ring Mauser action converted to 7.62x51 when Spain joined NATO. They were rebarreled from 8mm. The sights and also the rifle's length and weight mimic the CETME. They were mostly used as training rifles to get folks used to the sights and handling of the new CETME rifles being issued at the time.

It was originally a Mauser rifle chambered in 8x57mm. When Spain joined NATO, they had to convert to the 7.62x51mm cartridge. They took their existing rifles and rebarreled them.

It would be smart tohave headspace checked before firing. Assuming headspace is in spec, it is perfectly safe.
