No, sir. You would never believe me if I told you what % of my $ and how many hours of year round scouting, food plotting, patterning and finally hunting, I've put in to harvest the ones I've been fortunate enough to find. I have to kill a few or my wife would think I had another family in another town!
Seriously though, I'm not going to debate age structure any more. I can't help what I believe, and others can't either. That's just the way it is. I'll keep huntimg my butt off here and travelling to KS, MO, TX, hopefully KY next year, etc. for antlers, and I'll be perfectly happy with that. Others will be perfectly happy here, and that's all that matters.

This is exactly what I was talking about.

Now, not only are hunters(see previous posts) not satisfied with what THEY personally are doing..... They are so out of sorts that they can get mad at another person on an internet forum who the don't know, don't live or hunt near over a difference of opinion on the management strategy THEY employ on THEIR private land.

Once again, the problem is attitude. Not deer, management, or hunting style.

The biggest problem in deer hunting is the people that look down on others for shooting deer! I have seen people make a young kid feel bad about shooting a spike buck that was his first deer. He was tickled to death to kill the little buck but thanks to trophy hunters looking down on him at the check station he felt guilty for shooting it and didn't want to go back. What gives any trophy snob the right to try to tell someone else what they should consider a trophy? I can't stand people that think they are better than the next guy because they pass on certain deer. Most people that trophy manage their property just end up miserable and bitter because they can't control their neighbors property. Maybe you should try getting off your high horse and join in the fun of hunting with your husband and family and enjoy your time outdoors. You can't control what poachers, neighbors, or even your own family kill when they are in the woods hunting. Why not just be glad you have some where to hunt and someone to hunt with! Big horns are not every thing!

While I agree its bad to put down a kid,I have no problem with someone trying to improve their own property.If it was my place,my family or friends would not be3 shooting young or small bucks,or they wouldnt be back.

So deer horns means more than spending time outdoors hunting with friends and family. At least we know where you stand!

So frustrating when people take things out of context and try to put words in your mouth... what's wrong with having a quality place to hunt with your friends and family? Can you not do both??? That's what we have done over the past 12 years. Would my family and friends still hunt together if we had never started managing the property? Sure, but I can promise you the actual hunting has been 10 times better since we started managing for older age class bucks and improving the habitat.

Hunt by your desires and just know you have to let the rest fall where it will as you cannot control those things and you are probably the Most "miserable" of the folks mentioned by you because you care too much. set your goals and follow them and shoot the deer that make you happy. Trying to control the things you cannot will rob you of your peace and make you the one no one wants to be around because you cant enjoy their success.

well honestly if u have the land u can manage what u kill and don't kill...i have a farm just for does(freezer meat) then my hunting farm is for 2 1/2 deer + and has to have at least 6 or better so far there been 4 bucks killed off it...a 7point about 18inch wide aged at about 21/2 year old, one 8 was pushing 21/2 more like 2...and a 10point that was about a 41/2 year old deer and the other 8 was a 3year old deer...we don't kill does off this farm...if u have a farm u can control your deer then why kill small deer unless there something wrong with them...but if u don't have land u can hunt year in and out then u can't really be picky

I agree. I think in some ways this was taken wrong. I did mention I in ten years of hunting I have never taken a Trophy etc. I consider a trophy four or over. I meant body wise, buck wise, age wise I had never taken a huge buck. The three year old I have mounted is the only three year old I have ever taken. I would be happy with another three year old. I am just dissapointed in all I put into learning, feeding in the off season, trail cams, stands, and studying terrain etc. That I am not only not able to take a 3 or older but seeing them is even really rare. I'm not hung up on scores but I am pursuing mature bucks. I have decided that on one of my locations that I get to go only a few times I will just enjoy the hunting and whatever comes through and I feel like taking I will. This place is really impossible for me to control anything about so maybe it would be a good idea to practice QDM for a better herd on the places I have more control and just go hunting on the places out of the possiblity of controlling.

Deer management is like farming......some land will produce bumper crops consistently, while some will mostly produce mediocre crops. No matter what you do.

funny thing is a friend of mine killed a 12point and 10point in the same spot lol both between 3 1/2 to 4years old

its a fence line where there a thicket it on the other side and he catchs them running the fence line

Ill be honest, after gun seasons in Morgan Co., I do feel lost. Its an absolute brown down young buck slaughterhouse like nothing Ive ever experienced here at home. I feel so much better back here at home where that mentality isnt completely rampant.

i know what you mean... i stopped by the local processor and seen way too many small bucks being harvested ( yearlings).

I have been reading your comments I think that there might be another solution. One that might be difficult to swallow for some, but one that would force the eyes of the brown and down boys open. I posted on Tennessee Deer Hunters Food for thought.
