This is my 1st attempt at Pat Cohen's articulated deer hair duckling pattern... I really hope a monster bass or brown trout can be tricked into eating it.. If I could ever get over to East TN, I'd be obsessed with getting a musky to crush it!

I definitely like that!!! Is the head articulated?

Looking at it again, that's a boat load of spinning and packing.

It is articulated. The head wiggles back and forth like a champ...haha Its a medium fish skull articulated shank on the front of a 3/0 predator hook. Mallard feathers for tail and wings. Deer hair is white and grey, and elk hair is the brown. Beak is GSP 200 thread with clear cure goo and a fingernail polish final coat. She may be pretty, but I fully intend on watching a big fish try to destroy it!

On a side note, does anyone know what colors I would use for a wood duckling? I kind of had a merganser in mind for this.

Looking at it makes my fingers hurt! I tried to tie some deer hair popping bugs and struggled mightily. If I could make something like that no way I'd fish it on anything less than 80lb braid!!! Awesome job!

Not bad for your first attempt. That's the best looking fly I have ever seen in my life. Does it quack??

Thanks, guys! It's not too crazy difficult with practice at spinning deer hair but it is unbelievably messy to trim them down. Gotta have razor scissors and fresh double sided razor blades. Here's another slightly different shaped one I did at breakfast this morning.

And if any of y'all are ever in Memphis, stop by the Orvis store and introduce yourself.. I promise we aren't fly only, elitist jerks.. I'm the fishing manager there and I'm always up for talking about getting on the water or going hunting.
