DPMS Question

I have a DPMS 24" Panther Special with the fluted bull barrel. On the underside of the barrel it has 223 1-9. Which I understand that to be a 223 barrel with a 1-9 twist. On the left side of the lower receiver it has 223-5.56 right near the safety switch. My question is this,,,can I safely shoot 5.56 ammo out of this rifle? I bought this rifle new about 3-4 years ago and have shot is less than 100 rounds. Shoots great, just heavy as heck with that 24" barrel. I am looking for a 16" bull barrel.

Only the barrel will say what it's chambered for. The lower has to show caliber to satisfy ATF. I'd either not shoot 5.56 in it or re-barrel with a 5.56 chambered barrel.

Right on WC. The chambering is all in the upper receiver. I would follow whatever the barrel says.

I have that same gun. Its .223 only for the barrel. My dpms sweet sixteen is the same way.
