Got a couple DP traps on the way. Bait ideas? I've heard cat food or licorice. Thanks

I use cheapest dry dogfood and tiny marshmallows I can find, and have had solid success. Some folks put a golf ball on the top of trap to keep rain out and food dry, until raccoon knocks ball off to access the food. Good luck, it is fun, especially if you are in them thick.
Same for us. Cheap dry cat food and small marshmallows.

You can pretty much go through your pantry and anything old you were going to throw away you can use.
One thing I always do too is put a little peanut butter around the rim for an attractant.

Ditto to everything you said. Though I haven't tried tuna or sardines. I know they'd like it. We save all the shrimp tails/peels and crawfish scraps from our annual boil and vacuum seal/freeze in portions for filling all our traps. Then thaw a bag when we have weekends to run traps.
That's a great idea! That probably accumulates a lot of bait.

I personally like small marshmallows best for the simply reasons they usually work well with coons, and skunks don't seem to be very attracted to them.
If you use sardines, be prepared to catch a skunk, or maybe your neighbor's house cat.

All the above are solid recommendations. I save my tuna fish cans to put over top instead of golf ball. Keeps all the rain out, mice can't get in & adds a little scent. Started using a splash of crawfish oil on top of can this past year & believe it's a plus.

Everything listed above. I also carry a little spray bottle of imitation vanilla extract...mist your set a few times.
I've never caught a skunk in a dp using straight mini marshmallows. I have using cat food etc. I also use Caven's Moonshine lure, just dip a small twig in it and toss it nearby.
Cheapest dry catfood I can find + 2 packs of berry Koolaid (unsweetened or you will have an ant nest)
Dump the koolaid in the catfood/shake and put in a water tight jar. Works great. When it starts to be less effective, try adding any of the suggestions given above.

Yes ,you can catch skunks in dp's. The only time I have ever caught skunks in dp's ,is when I use a fish oil as a trailing scent. I'm not saying you won't using other stuff but that's what I have noticed my highest percentage catches come from .
Pro tip, take a large marshmallow and push it on the trigger. Cover with dry cat food and mini marshmallow. Also put bait around the trap on the ground. The large marshmallow will improve your catch rate. They have to pull the trigger to get it.

Buzzards have an unreal sense of smell & vision, too.
Anything out in the open can attract them.
I put some chicken meat in a live catch trap once,
and a buzzard got in it.

Fruit loops and cat food in the trap. Rub some peanut butter around the rim and stick a marshmallow on top. My boys caught plenty of raccoons using this method.
This girl had both hands in the cookie jar. Mini marshmallows and dry cereal.
I've been summoned to Michigan for work again. Hopefully can start trapping this fall when I get back

What trap do you all use? I have coon problems around the house and would like to knock them back. We do have cats around so I don't want to catch them in the process. Do all the DP traps use a pull trigger?
I use the duke dp traps. They come with a pull trigger, but I modified mine to push/pull. There are some that come with push pull (z traps).
