A couple years ago my Dad was pheasant hunting in Indiana when his dog disappeared into the woods and then started yelping. When he got to it, a big 10 pointer had the dog penned up against a tree. The bucks back legs were limp but was doing the job on this dog so my Dad grabbed his antlers without thinking. The buck then turned on my Dad. Luckily the buck was tired or my Dad was strong enough to use one hand to reach into his pocket and pull out his pocket knife and cut the deers throat. Dad had a few scratches but amazingly was not gored.

The game warden didn't let my Dad keep it but let my Dad take pictures with it.

Your Dad was fortunate to not get hurt. A wild animal has strength that is hard to deal with.

My dog got a good stomping from a doe a few years ago. I was out spraying RoundUp around my new oak & fruit trees and the area all around there was prime cover for hiding new fawns. My dog must have stumbled onto a fawn because all of a sudden she started yelping like she was being skinned alive. Although the cover was way too tall to see her, I could see her path by watching the weeds and briars parting violently making a bee line on a path right towards me. My dog came blasting into the open about 15 feet away with a doe right on top of her stomping her with all it's strength. The doe made a quick U-Turn as soon as it saw me. My dog wasn't hurt but she stayed close to me the rest of the morning. :)
