- Pond in a city park for channel cats, catch and release only.
- Neighborhood pond known for much bigger catfish, but more out of the way.
- Harpeth river, trying to snag and kill some buffalo.

I can't decide what to do this evening.... suggestions?

I remember when I only had decisions like that to make.... :D

Just enjoy life while you're single and free my friend.. :D

Whatchu do durin them daylight daytime hours? You in school or got a workin for money type job?

I'm still looking for a box to send you them reels. Couple of them are in that $70 range before I wore them out...or thought I did.

Two casts, two fishies. That lake is open for fishing.

none of those appeal to me,but Im a bass guy

Well I went to the pond and fished till about 11:45pm. Aside from baitfish, I caught a bullhead, snapping turtle, and finally a channel cat. All on turkey liver. Would have been 2 channel cats if one had not broken my line. I might need to re-spool, that's the second time my 8 pound line has given in to a weak spot.

Those are some nice bass Bowriter.

Football Hunter, you should try some other fish sometime, because there are too many other good fish out there to only fish for bass. ;) But to each his own.

I dont put you down for fishing for carp and gar and drum, just has no interest to me,have at it,Ill do some rock fishing in the fall, but I dont target what I consider trash fish, each to hiis own

Just guessing, but Ive been targeting Bass longer than you've been alive,Im 43.hard core bass since 83' or so,when I hook up and fight a big fish and see its one of the above mentioned fish,I usually just cut my line, different strokes I guess

Yup everybody has their preferences. And I've been alive since '92 so yes, you got me beat. Been fishing myself for 8 years now.

I like a good challenge, good fight, and a good sized fish, and that's often what I find with carp and other "trash" fish. I think gar are cool because they are unlike any other fish I see in the water, and are challenging to hook, and will jump like a bass when hooked and are all around a very aggressive fish.

I like bass because they are aggressive fighters with a thick body that you can catch on a lot of different lures. They jump on stuff unlike a lot of other fish... of course you know more about them than I do most likely. I prefer smallies for the fight but usually catch largemouth here.

But I will always have a special place for bottom fishing... the past two nights, I was night fishing off the bottom and nothing gets the adrenaline running like your reel screaming all of a sudden in the middle of the night and hooking into a big carp or catfish. I could sit there for an hour at night waiting for a fish.

It is hard to find access points, but try the south harpeth if you can. Also, try turnbull in Dickson County. Try the 96 brigde (about 3-4 miles from I-40), just past the bridge is Deal Rd, get your backroad map and take a left on Deal and go till it ends, take a left on Spencer Mill, from there I can't remember turns, but Doug Hill crosses Turnbull. You can also try Cliff View Golf Course. Call the course and tell them what you'd like to do (Turnbull is adjacent to the course) and they may or may not let you, but it's worth a try. Also, Kingston Springs has a few access areas (Craggie Hope area just down the street has an access point). That's all I'm going to give you for now.

Thanks jb3. I have heard from someone that most of the south harpeth is on private farms where they will chase you with guns and dogs to get off their land. In other words it's hard to get there without trespassing... but I've heard it has some good fishing holes. Honestly I don't even know where it is... I know the Harpeth, West and Little harpeth river but haven't seen the south harpeth.

take a right at Harpeth Hill Funeral Home (South Harpeth Rd, i think) and just follow the road and it'll show up on the left. Use to be able to park where the road turns 90 deg to the right and goes over it, but it's pretty tough these days to access it. And if you don't have much time, Brush Creek, very small, but you may catch a few is down the same road a few miles. Fish upstream untill someone at the Golf Club tells you to leave and then fish it down stream till you get to the Harpeth. I used to supply myself with an endless supply of golf balls from that creek as well.

Brush Creek, you may get luckey and catch a 1-1.5 lb bass, but I have caught some decent bass on the s. harpeth. But then again, I use to fish it 20 years ago when you could "sneak" through a field or two. lol

I wrote a story some years ago, "The Turnbull Massacre". We put in at that bridge and took out some miles downstream on some property owned by a Dickson car dealer. Dang the creeks is full of takeputs and portages. Caught quite a few fish but never had any desire to fish it again. Did have a whole bunch of land leased along it, though. Killed a ton of deer.

Harpeth but not to snag lol Good bass in there!
Bass fishing can be great there, although they average a pound or less usually, but I do occasionally pull up a 2 or 3 pounder that really makes it worthwhile.

I want to snag and/or shoot the buffalo because there are too dang many of them and they kick up a lot of mud when they are feeding.
