December 18 Swamp Rabbit Hunt

Perry County swamp rabbit hunt last Wednesday. Ended up with our limit. Only 14 in this picture but picked one more up before heading out at about midday. It was non stop action from the time the tailgate dropped until it shut at the end of the hunt.

Looks like good hunt you must have rocket packs on them dogs if they circle.that many swampers in half a day!!!!!

They all circled, when people hunt with us the first thing said is be sure of what your shooting at and second do not jump shoot a rabbit. Two different strains of beagles were in on this hunt but on our part we hunt branko's that traditionally are a step faster than "average". When they get one going, they push em pretty hard.

Awesome man, congrats. Good rules, mine are the same. I will never understand why someone would want to jump shoot a rabbit, it doesn't help the dogs at all.

I don't jump shoot either,like to let the dogs run it,but had a older man tell me they are better eating if you shoot um on the jump,said if you shoot um after a run the meat is tougher.

No jump shooting and no shooting squirters! No fun in that atleast not for me and it doesnt do much for dogs either!

Are those swamp rabbits or regular cottontails? Can't tell from the pic.

Had a pretty good mix on this hunt, I believe 5 maybe 6 were hillbillies with the rest swamp rabbits. A couple of the swampers were good sized rabbits.

Nothing like it. They will get you a little worried as they run out of hearing but when they turn and head back is when the heart really gets pumping.
