That is what I was wondering, what would leave the head?Probably. Although that is not the classic sign of coyotes predation. The most common indicator of coyotes predation is the chest and abdomen have been ripped open (often with the sternum of the ribcage missing), and the most nutritious organs eaten, primarily the heart, lungs and liver.
First thing I noticed as well.Looks almost cut off cleanly, not torn or eaten off.
Only hay near was cut 2 weeks ago, this was very fresh. Is there a hay field close where this fawn may have been hit with a mower? Perhaps it had the head severed, was not seen by the farmer and carried out of the hay field by a coyote?
Yeh, I ran 2 through the combine and decapitated 2 cutting barley. There wasn't near as many in our wheat fields but barley fields were full of fawns. What about any wheat fields near by?? Could've been a combine. Had a few close calls this year.
